Plaster
Most of my paintings are on plaster surfaces that I make myself.
To make them I pour liquid plaster directly on my studio floor, forming freeform molds for each piece with wood or bands of clay. Sometimes I sculpt the plaster surface before starting the painting, sometime when a painting is almost finished I rub out part of the image by scratching back into the plaster.
In recent years I started making undulating plaster supports. These new, more sculptural surfaces for paintings can be seen in my upcoming show.
